Annapurna Base Camp Challenge Trek
November 2006

Introduction

Have you ever dreamed of trekking through the snow capped peaks of the Nepal Himalaya? Join us on a journey that will take you from lowland villages and rice terraces to glaciers and mountains in a country that has captured the imagination of explorers and mountaineers for more than a 100 years.

This classic trek will take you into the heart of a spectacular natural amphitheatre and culminates at Annapurna Base Camp below the awesome south face of Annapurna (26,545ft/8,091m). Rising some 10,000ft (3,048m) above the glacier, this is one of the world's most famous mountaineering challenges and without question one of the most spectacular sights in the Himalaya.

What's it all for?

Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world with 42% of its population living below the poverty line. Out of every 100 children, 48 will be malnourished and underweight, 42 will be involved in child labour, 30 will never have been to school and 10 will die before their fifth birthday.

By signing up for this trek you will be helping Child Welfare Scheme; our small charity works in the slums, streets and remote mountain villages of Nepal to reduce poverty, improve health and education and give opportunities to children and young people who desperately need a second chance in life.

What do I have to do?

In order to secure your place on the trek, we will ask you to send us a non-refundable registration fee of £250 (for UK) and HK$3,500 (for HK). On top of this we will also ask you to raise a minimum of £2,650 (for UK) and HK$36,500 (for HK); therefore in total each trek participant will raise a minimum of £2,900 (for UK) and HK$40,000 (for HK). Over half of this total will go directly towards our projects in Nepal
