Asha Clinic: essential hub for running the departmentThis purpose built and team designed primary health care centre acts as the referral hub and main base for the activities of all the various health sub-programs. This very busy clinic was created to work around the concept of 'Paediatric Triage' that ensures that the sickest children are prioritised first. On site laboratory, dispensing, counselling and educational services make this a model health centre that boasts over 10,500 poor scheme member families as it's client base. Asha Hoste: a place to stay while undergoing longer term careAsha Hostel was created to address the need of young people coming to Pokhara to access more advanced elective surgical procedures at partner facilities. The hostel provides accommodation, food, and accompanied visits to local hospitals and during the (often quite long stays), the patients and also their carers can benefit from creative and non-formal educational services. Asha Mobile: mobile health clinics in outlying urban slumsVisiting several urban slum communities on a regular basis, the team provide access to front-line primary health care services as well as tackling preventative care issues together with mother and young clubs. In addition to the primary health clinics, patients requiring access to more advanced care can visit the main hub Asha Clinic via this service, where they can be offerec accompanied referral routes on to other health partner's facilities. Asha Village Health: serving remote rural mountain village communitiesWorking from the Day-Care/Health Centres, the remote mountain village based health team focus their activities on the children coming each day to the project's kindergartens, whilst also offering other front-line services to the whole community in coordination with government health posts. Asha Safe MotherhoodNepal has the highest levels of maternal mortality in the region, and for every mother that dies, many others are left with long lasting difficulties for themselves, and many babies die or have preventable disabilities. As an integral part of several sub-programs' activities, Asha Safe Motherhood focuses on the health needs of mothers during and after pregnancy offering a range of services in close coordination with specialist partner organisations. Asha Youth Health: on the streets and at drop in centresYouths based or working on the streets of urban centres in Nepal have face special health challenges, and this programme has responded with a service that is available at not only drop in centres together with partner organisations, but also out on the streets. This ensures that the most isolated young people can access a range of services beginning with health care but also including social services, Non-Formal Education, dental camps and vocational training (through JYOTI programme). The health workers are specialised in identifying substance abuse, risk of STI infections and also challenges in working to help increase awareness and value of a young person's 'self', in order to change behaviour as part of an overal strategy to help protect young people through the correct use of available condoms. |
